owlCREATIVE WRITING CLASSES 2018

Bird-Song Writing Practice Group. Teaches basic “Writing Practice” (based on Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones), a cumulative series of short exercises. Quiet your inner critic, delve into your unconscious, go deeper into your writing, and increase your creativity. Helps you learn how to write, to improve your writing, or to overcome writer’s block. For all levels of writers. Fee: $50. for each 4-week session. Call/write for exact day and time. Begins February 2018.

The Art and Craft of Creative Writing. Learn the specific craft techniques you need in order to begin writing or to improve your writing. We’ll do inspiring exercises to generate material for your stories. Receive gentle, structured feedback. For both beginning and intermediate writers. Meets every other week for 6 weeks. Call/write for exact day and time. Fee: $210.  Begins February 2018.

Joyous Expression: A Day of Meditation and Writing Practice. 10 am to 4:30 pm. “Writing Practice” will be integrated with sitting meditation and walking meditation. Will be held mostly in gentle silence, except when reading our work or discussing writing issues. For all levels of writers and meditators. To be held in Spring 2018.

Advanced Technique and Critique Workshop. This ongoing class has two openings. By application only. Meets every other week. Call/write for details, and for exact day and time. Begins January or February 2018.

Private lessons. To meet your individual needs: coaching, editing, or manuscript consultation. Available any time.

Patricia Dove Miller has been leading creative writing classes in Nevada County for the past fourteen years, including those at the Center for the Arts, Sierra Writers, Wild Mt. Yoga Center, Mt. Stream Meditation Center, and Shambhala Center. She has attended writing workshops with Natalie Goldberg in Taos, and is an alumna of the Squaw Valley Community of Writers. She co-led the Women’s Writing Salon for eight years. Pat holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College. Her memoir, Bamboo Secrets: One Woman’s Quest Through the Shadows of Japan, was published in 2016.
